Welcome to my new interview series featuring some of the brightest and most hard-working women I know. My goal for this series is to collect stories from women in all levels of their career. The hope is that their journey and their advice will trigger something in you, and help you take the jump you need to achieve your personal level of success. Whether they are freelancers, founders of their own business, corporate employees, or students, this #LadiesWhoHustle series will showcase their unique talents and help you unveil yours.
I had the pleasure of meeting this lady late last year, and I knew right away I had to have her on my blog! Up next on my #LadiesWhoHustle feature, the beautiful, talented and inspirational, Krista Williams.
Krista grew up in a small town in Ohio, with no dream but a desire to get OUT and change the scenery to something more inspiring. After living in Chicago, working in a consulting job she knew wasn't the right fit, she took the chance, quit her job and traveled to Patagonia for two months where she disconnected and reconnected with herself.
From there, she moved to New York City to be with her no boyfriend, Justin, whom she had met less than five times in real life (that's another story that involves a psychic for another day...). In New York City, while working at a job that was part time in London, she started The Hundred Blog to document her travels and share her experiences around the world in cities like Marrakech, Majorca, Lisbon, Cape Town, and Tokyo.
Although her work in digital marketing evolved alongside her blog, she continued to struggle to find her WHY, knowing it would be more than just the blog. After moving to Los Angeles, she was able to truly spread her wings and connect with her spirit. Through a series of rejections from what she thought was her dream job (SoulCycle), she connected with Lindsey (interview with Lindsey coming up soon!). There, they started having deep meaningful conversations around rejection, fear, relationships, finding purpose, and more.
Krista and Lindsey decided to record these conversations on their closet floor, and after 7 months of practicing, through lots of trial and error (and an introduction they had recorded by someone for $5 from Fiverr), they launched Almost 30. Almost 30 has now grown to become a media company, brand and community around the world where Krista is able to utilize all her skills in sales, marketing, social media, strategy and most importantly her human-ness everyday.
What lights Krista up? Making people feel less alone, more like themselves and less unafraid, because there's a lot of change and transitions always happening in people's lives. Sometimes this journey gets lonely and if she can be the girl in your ears making you laugh (with some dirty or self-depreciating humour), or making you think... then Krista considers her job done.

Why do you do what you do?
As corny as it sounds, but I was born to do this! Everything in my life has led to this, and I couldn't be more grateful! I get to work with the smartest, kindest, most incredible women in the world, and the community of Almost 30 Nation has been incredible to see grow. All we've had to do is create a space where people can be themselves and to show up and support one another, and it's just blown up to an inclusive, loving, encouraging group of women all over the world dedicated to change their lives and the lives of those around them.
What was your dream job at 10 years old?
Oh my goodness, I was saying crazy things to impress people and to get them to think I was smarter than I was. Honestly, I was saying I wanted to be an engineer? HA! If I could only go back then and speak to my younger self and tell her that I will be something she could be proud of!
If you could have anyone's job in the world, whose job would you choose and why?
Truly wouldn't change my job for the world! I would LOVE to have more people on the team, less of the operational work and a bit easier schedule with things, but it's been so incredible to put in the work and see this grow.
What is one thing people outside of your industry get wrong about your job?
That all we do is 'talk' to be a podcaster - it's SO MUCH time and effort around prepping, scheduling, and overall just the energy of it is A LOT.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself living in a spacious, gorgeous home with my loving family. Working at home most days on Almost 30 and then recording, traveling during the other. There is much more time and space in 10 years for me!
What has been your biggest career struggle so far?
The whole thing until how, ha. I remember feeling so lost and so low in these jobs, just wanting more and seeing the breaks in the corporate system that I hated.
And what about your biggest career win?
Risking it all to quit my job and take the podcast full time.
What's the best piece of career advice you've received?
That being an entrepreneur is amazing, but has as many challenges as a normal job. You get this thing called decision fatigue where you have to make all these decisions at the same time, and it gets overwhelming to have the weight of it on your shoulders.
Have you received any bad career advice to date?
That you can't make money doing what you love.
What are you the most proud of?
The community around Almost 30 Podcast. It's so thriving, open, warm and willing to evolve, I am so proud to be a part of it!
Who motivates you the most?
I have an internal motivation honestly. I am so hungry to make this lifetime amazing, that nothing external really changes that for me. I think that once you find something you love, a light switches off that really changes things for you.
What advice do you have for those looking for a career in your field?
Don't be afraid to take risks and go for it no matter what anyone says or thinks. If you want change you need to be willing to take a risk.
When do you feel the most confident?
When I am speaking at our events or connecting with the women that come to our events. They are the BEST and they make you feel so good.
How do you relax?
I have a hard time doing this, but meditation is my key to relaxation! It has changed the game for me.
Currently coveting: A TESLA - ha. Serious GOALS though!
Favourite way to sweat: I love a good SoulCycle class honestly! I used to be obsessed, and now I have chilled out a bit, but there is nothing seriously like a good sweat listening to amazing music in a dark room! The dark room is key!
Favourite book: Thoughts are Things by Prentice Mulford
Morning bird or night owl? MORNING FOREVER AND ALWAYS!
Favourite '90s jam: Return of the Mack
Favourite city: London
What's your spirit animal: Siberian Tiger
